God of War: Ghost of Sparta Hitting PSP, Ready at Dawn Returns

Rejoice, the team behind 2008’s well-received God of War: Chains of Olympus are returning to familiar stomping grounds. Kratos is making a grand return to PSP in God of War: Ghost of Sparta, a platform exclusive serving as a prequel to the original franchise installment that started it all.

Ready at Dawn is handling development duties, in close collaboration with SCEA’s Santa Monica Studio. A brief overview of the story, as explained by SCEA PR manager Eric Levine, is provided below.

Ghost of Sparta tells the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must face his dark past to prove his worthiness to the Gods — a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos’ tattoo, scar, and family.

Sony touts that its development team and RaD have leveraged the PSP hardware to fit in “state-of-the-art visual technologies, higher resolution environments, and greater depths of scale” over that of Chains of Olympus.  In other words, expect this God of War to align more closely with its console brethren on the epic-o-meter.

There’s no release date set as of yet, but you can bet we’ll be hearing more once E3 rolls around.
