Glasses Deter Japanese Consumers From 3D Tech, Survey Finds

The hype surrounding stereoscopic 3D is falling on deaf ears in Japan, if a recent survey conducted by Japanese e-commerce site Kakaku is any indication. Representing a sample base of 8,957 people, the poll showed that 67.4 have no interest whatsoever in picking up a 3D-ready TV set. Another 31.2 percent said they were intrigued by the tech to the point of consideration.

Of those polled that have no plans to invest in a 3D TV, almost 70 percent cited the nagging requirement of having to wear glasses as a deal breaker. Remaining respondents were deterred by exorbitant barrier to entry costs and a lack of content.

If the average Japanese consumer’s main gripe with 3D is having to wear special glasses, then this certainly bodes well for Nintendo and its glasses-free 3DS handheld.
