Blizzard Not Requiring Real ID on Forums
by July 9, 2010 @ 11:04 am
Following a backlash of cataclysmic proportions, Blizzard has confirmed that plans to require the use of its Real ID system on the company’s forums have been axed. They’ve arrived at this decision after listening to the community’s concerns (even if some were unfounded) and have decided to not require your real name to be attached to your username on the Blizzard forums.
Real ID will still be implemented within Starcraft II and World of Warcraft to enable cross-game and cross-realm chat support, but you will not be required to have it displayed if you choose not to. It’s nice to see that Blizzard still cares about their community, even after merging with Activision. You can check the announcement by Mike Morhaime, CEO and Cofounder of Blizzard, below.
