Assassin’s Creed May Skip 2011

The November 16 release of Brotherhood may not mark the start of a trend after all. Amid concerns that Ubisoft is milking its Assassin’s Creed franchise, Ubisoft Montreal associate producer Jean-Francois Boivin says the company intends to avoid churning out sequels at a yearly pace.
Speaking to UK site Eurogamer, Ubisoft Montreal associate producer Jean-Francois Boivin said that the murderous stealth-oriented romp will likely take a “breather” in 2011 as the company takes time to come up with a “new and refreshing” experience.
However, Boivin did concede that the decision isn’t entirely up to him. While those on the creative side are pushing for a longer dev cycle, it’s ultimately up to the higher-up corporate types to pin down a date.
“We have some business people that will eventually put a date and say, ‘This needs to come out’. We have our creative people, who are also pushing on their end, saying, ‘We need this much time to do something new and refreshing, just scope wise’. So I don’t know how much time we’ll need,” he said.
While it is financially lucrative to push out new installments at a rapid pace, we think waiting it out another year will be healthy for the franchise, if only to avoid burn out.
