Boom. Amid pre-order cancellations back in August and a lack of communication, one could say the writing was already on the wall, but today EA and DICE made it official: the PC version of Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 2: Onslaught have been cancelled.
In a statement, DICE GM Karl Magnus Troedsson said the decision was not made lightly, that it had to be done in order to prioritize development resources. All focus is on now on the company’s upcoming Frostbite 2-powered shooter Battlefield 3.
“This is one of those cross roads where I need to make a hard decision,” noted Troedsson. He added, “While we’ll continue supporting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and previous games, it’s time to look ahead to the next giant leap for DICE – the release of Battlefield 3, powered by the mighty Frostbite 2 engine. Our goal is crystal clear: we’re going to build the best Battlefield game ever, and we’ll do whatever it takes to make this the biggest launch in DICE’s history.”
