Microsoft Launches Xbox Live Labs

If the promise of digital goodies for helping perform network tests on Xbox Live sounds enticing, then read on. The opt-in initiative, called Xbox Live Labs, performs various background tests that run over specific time intervals, sending usage data back to Microsoft.

While the content of the results are unknown, Microsoft is keen to note that any date is “recorded solely for the purpose of testing and improving the service and will not be used to identify you.” It’s also entirely optional.

Users will be rewarded for their efforts in the form of Achievements and Avatar items, including “lab coat, brain helmet, and crazy mad scientist hair!”
