NPD Wants To Include Digital Sales In Future Reports

While NPD’s monthly sales run-down cover only retail offerings, the firm hopes to branch out in the future, covering digital transactions which are currently only found in its quarterly report.

“We are expanding the number of digital retailers we have relationships with in order to develop a digital POS (point of sale) service,” NPD analyst Anita Frazier told GamesIndustry.biz.

Although many digital distribution services are reluctant to share data outside their partner scope, Frazier is expecting a shift to openness as “digital grows to become a larger portion of the consumer’s overall spend.” Without such transparency, she says it will become “increasingly challenging” to create proper valuations of the market segment, making investment decisions difficult.
