Unearthed in court documents released today, dedicated server provider Softlayer has moved to quash a subpoena issued by Sony over information pertaining to George Hotz’s account on hacking forum PSX-Scene. To put it simply, Softlayer isn’t convinced Sony needs the data.

Among the reasons for not heeding to Sony’s demands, Softlayer cites “failing to allow a reasonable time to comply, requiring disclosure of protected matter, and subjecting the subpoenaed party to undue burden.”

Specifically, Sony is seeking data that pertains to “documents reproducing all server logs, IP address logs, account information, account access records and application or registration forms” to Hotz’s activity on the site. Earlier today, it was revealed that Sony won a subpoena ordering PayPal to turn over donation details, which has raised privacy concerns.
