Federal Court Gives Silicon Knights Go Ahead To Sue Epic Games

The long-standing legal feud between Silicon Knights and Epic Games, initiated back in 2007, has just begun to heat up. A federal court has gave Too Human developer Silicon Knights the go ahead to sue Epic over alleged claims of “fraud, negligent misrepresentation, unfair competition, breach of contract and breach of warranty.”

Silicon Knight’s complaints root back to the early days of Unreal Engine 3 licensing, with the company claiming that Epic knowingly handed out an incomplete engine in order to fund its in-house projects, leaving licensees hamstrung for support. It further asserts that Epic was withholding an “improved” iteration of the engine as Gears developed progressed.

“When Epic first went public about our case to the press, they said that our claims were without merit,” Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack told Kotaku in a statement. “Two separate federal court judges have now disagreed with Epic, and have ruled that the case does have merit.”
