There’s no question the PS Vita packs some serious hardware grunt, but how will it stack up a year or two down the road, given the rapid rate at which smartphones are advancing? Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli feels this a significant hurdle Sony faces, further noting his concern that it may already be too late.

“The Vita is an absolutely fantastic platform but it will have a hard time, and it might be too late,” Yerli told Develop.

“I love Sony as a company, and we have great relations with them, but the Vita is going to have a hard time against the next generation mobiles and all the tablets.”

Yerli’s views hold merit, but as the adage goes, content is king. If Vita has enough compelling experiences to attract consumers, it’ll have a fighting chance, even after smartphones eventually outpace it on paper.
