Word has it that Ubisoft is hopping aboard the Online Pass bandwagon, first pioneered by EA in an effort to deter used game purchases by rewarding those who buy new. According to a GamerZine report, it’s dubbed ‘Uplay Passport.’

Apparently, the system will debut with Driver: San Francisco. New copies will contain a Uplay Passport code, which can be used to unlock online multiplayer features. Those that buy used, with an already redeemed unlock code, will have to purchase an unlock code direct from Ubisoft. This is basically a carbon copy of EA’s ‘Project $10’ initiative.

Many publishers have followed suit, including the likes of Codemasters, THQ, and Sony. Ubisoft has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Driver: San Francisco is due out on August 30.
