PS3 Firmware 3.70 Out Soon, Brings Auto Trophy Sync for PS Plus Subscribers

Update: Firmware 3.70 is now available via Network Update or from our download section.

Trophy collecting aficionados know the pain of having to manually re-sync trophies to update the totals on PSN and various stat-tracking sites, including our gamercards. With PS3 firmware 3.70, Sony is adding an ‘Automatic Update’ feature that automatically syncs trophies and uploads save data to the PSN cloud for backup purposes.

The catch? It’s for PS Plus subscribers only.

If you aren’t a member of Sony’s incentive-driven loyalty program, this update isn’t quite as noteworthy. There’s a few additions to be aware of, however. The growing collective of video offerings on PS3 have been moved into a dedicated XMB category dubbed ‘TV/Video Services.’ Beyond that, users can look forward to 3D support in Blu-ray content across Java-based special features, DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR support for 3D Blu-ray titles, and the ability to view 3D digital photos in MPO format.

The firmware is due out soon, along with PSP firmware 6.60 – which Sony says is a “minor” update.
