It’s hard to believe, but the PSP actually gave the Nintendo DS Lite some competition in this week’s Japanese hardware sales chart, courtesy of Media Create. The PSP finished with 59,792 units sold, compared to the DS’ 76,243 units. Not too shabby, considering that the Crisis Core hype has now subsided. It’s great to see the PSP keeping its numbers up.

Wii peaked at 27,502, putting it not too far above the PS3’s 18,785 units sold. However, we can expect Wii numbers to hit the roof in next week’s sales charts, as Mario Galaxy was released in Japan today.

PS2 is still hanging in there at 11,698 units sold. The Xbox 360 – well, as we know, isn’t a hot seller in Japan. It managed to push only 3,718 units in the sales chart.
