Portal Co-Creator’s Next Is Quantum Conundrum

The next title from Kim Swift, one of the original Portal creators that left Valve during development of Portal 2, is Quantum Conundrum. By way of a GameSpot preview, it’s described as a “first-person puzzle platformer set in an inexplicably large mansion with themes heavily rooted in science.”

A tool known as IDS (interdimensional shift device), is a glove central to solving puzzles in the game. It allows players to shift dimensions at will, thereby altering properties of the surrounding environment. One example given was switching to the ‘fluff’ dimension, which turns objects — such as a heavy safe — into a soft plush toy that can be tossed around, resembling that of  a companion cube. The takeaway is that you can switch dimensions on the fly. To break through a wall of glass, you could throw the object while in ‘fluff’ mode and revert to the standard dimension once it’s in midair.

The concept certainly opens up a wealth of possibilities, and we can’t wait to see more at PAX.
