Update: It looks as if the firmware has already went live, check Network Update to download.

With firmware 1.80 hitting the PS Vita tomorrow, Sony’s taken the opportunity to walk users through the new features and UI tweaks introduced in the update, as shown in the video after the break.

Of note: using touch screen gestures to browse the Vita’s bubble-filled home screen is now optional, there’s an option that when enabled, allows users to use the directional pad to scroll through apps and games. Aside from that a convenient search bar has been added to the top right of the web browser. There’s a run-down of previously revealed changes here.

Additionally, Sony’s handheld product planning director Don Mesa says in the video that PSOne downloads are coming in “phased rollouts” every week. Given the lengthy wait for this functionality, it was thought that the compatibility list would mostly mimic that of the PS3 from day one, but it turns out that is not the case. The list of initial offerings include Arc the Lad, Cool Boarders 2, Final Fantasy VII, Hot Shots Golf 2, Jet Moto, Syphon Filter, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal 2, and Wild Arms — nine games in total. It’s worth noting this only applies to SCEA regions — those in Europe will have over 100 games to choose from.
