Sales figures for THQ and Vigil Games’ Darksiders 2 have surfaced. According to the NPD’s stats, the fantasy action-adventure title hit 247,000 sales in the month of August.
Darksiders 2 was released on August 14, and Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has informed GamesIndustry International that the NPD cutoff date was August 25. By now, it’s very likely that sales have exceeded one million. According to Pachter, however, THQ needs to reach two million units sold just to break even.
It should be noted that these sales figures are for the US only. Additionally, they don’t account for Steam downloads. THQ has seen a rough financial period as of late. With Darksiders 2 being its big blockbuster release, it’s no secret that the publisher has a lot riding on this title.
The game has received some great press attention and reviews, so it’s not a matter of Darksiders 2 being a bad game. We’ll have to wait and see how the game continues to fare down the road, and how the newly appointed president of THQ, Jason Rubin, will address the outcome of sales.
