Viacom: 10 Million Rock Band Songs Downloaded Since Launch

Speaking at the company’s first quarter earnings call, Philippe Dauman, chief executive of MTV parent Viacom, revealed that “more than 10 million” Rock Band songs have been downloaded since the game’s debut in late November. By comparison, 3 million units of the game have shipped since launch. You could theoretically say that at least every Rock Band owner is downloading three songs, which isn’t a shabby attach rate at all.

Dauman said the song tracks are being purchased at an “accelerating pace,” with “several major acts in the pipeline for future song downloads.”

Total revenue for the company was up 15 percent to $3.12 billion from last year, with an operating income of $567 million for Q1 2008.
