Super Smash Bros.

Pac-Man was the big reveal for Super Smash Bros. at this year’s E3. However, you may not have known that the yellow spherical character’s inclusion in the series was previously discussed within the Nintendo offices prior to the upcoming game.

In a semi-weekly Famitsu column (via Kotaku), Masahiro Sakurai talked about Shigeru Miyamoto’s suggestion to have Pac-Man be a part of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. Obviously, it wasn’t meant to be, but Miyamoto was really hoping it would happen.

“During development of Smash Bros. Brawl, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo approached me and asked, ‘Can’t we have Pac-Man as a guest character?'” stated Sakurai. “At the time, imagining the image of Pac-Man and his incomplete pizza shape, I thought to myself, ‘Hmmm … That’s a little too farfetched.'”

Obviously, Bandai Namco’s role as developer of the next game in the series has helped to make things just a tad more possible for Pac-Man to appear alongside Mario and company.
