How To Customize PS3 XMB Fonts

Here’s a nifty customization technique uncovered by our friends over at Nyleveia, allowing users to give their PS3 XMB a more personal touch by replacing the default font with that of a custom one, provided your unit is “jailbroken.” It entails simply replacing two files located on the PS3’s dev_flash partition. A step-by-step process is detailed below.

LittleBigPlanet 2 Delayed Until January 2011

It is with great disappointment that I inform you that one of the fall’s biggest titles for PlayStation 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, has been delayed until January of next year. The delay comes just a short time into the closed beta of the game and just a few months before its release. According to the official blog the game was delayed […]

Pachter “Baffled” By Sony’s PSP Strategy, Reckons PSP2 Should Emulate 3DS Tech

Outspoken Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is completely “baffled” by Sony’s handling of the PSP and feels its successor should “emulate” the 3DS tech-wise. “I’m completely baffled by Sony’s PSP strategy.  They owned the portable entertainment market with the Walkman, and sat back and watched as Nintendo dominated games and Apple dominated music,” explained Pachter in an interview with trade site […]

Once again developed exclusively for PSP, this mashup expands on the original with “new game modes, story missions, items, alternate costumes and combat features.” Familiar faces like Kain (FFIV) and Lightning (FFXIII) will step into the ring for […]

PlayStation Store Updates Early With Japanese Imports Today

Ahead of tomorrow’s planned downtime on PSN, Sony has decided to roll out this week’s PlayStation Store offerings tonight. The update is an eventful one, bringing with it the arrival of the much-welcomed Japanese PSOne Imports store section. Making their US debut for the first time ever is the bizarre, testosterone-laden beat ’em up Cho Aniki alongside 1996’s Gaia Seed, […]

PS3 Firmware 3.50 Goes Live

Update: As promised, firmware 3.50 has gone live! Grab it from our download section or via Network Update. Take caution, however: like 3.42 before it, this update renders all PSJailbreak variants inoperable. Additionally, to complement its release, the US PS Blog sends along more details on enhanced Facebook integration and the “Grief Reporting” feature, which makes its debut in 3.50. […]

Suda51 Expresses Concern Over PlayStation Move

Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda of No More Heroes and Killer 7 fame has expressed concern over the manner in which PlayStation Move is sold, pointing to the fact that to minimize risk, developers must take into account the possibility that users only have a single controller. I’m worried about the style of release of it and concerned about how […]

Sony Doles Out More PSP-3000 Colors In Japan

Sony is releasing even more PSP-3000 colors in Japan come November 18, both of which boast two-toned styling. First up a red and black unit, virtually identical to the faceplate featured in the God of War: Ghost of Sparta bundle that was announced last month over yonder. Second is a decidedly more striking white and blue unit. Unfortunately, this one […]

Mortal Kombat Producer Calls PSP2 A “Pretty Powerful Machine”

Much like the PSPgo before it, the PSP2 is quickly shaping up to be one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets. Despite the fact that it’s still not officially announced, Mortal Kombat’s executive producer Shaun Himmerick dished out praise in a recent interview with trade site IndustryGamers. He sounds quite delighted with it, to say the least. Here’s a snip:

PSJailbreak Hit With Bans In Russia, Hong Kong

In Sony’s continuing jaunt to crack down on sales of the PSJailbreak device, word has emerged that retailers in Russia and Hong Kong are now prohibited from selling the USB dongle. A rough translation of a document obtained by a Russian site notes that any exchange of the device is deemed illegal. Even simply using the device is considered an […]

PS2 Backwards Compatibility Device Patent Filed By Sony Japan

Sony may be responding to cries for PS2 backwards compatibility — which was removed from later PS3 units — in a slightly unorthodox way. A recent patent dug up by the information sleuths over at Siliconera reveals that Sony is exploring the possibility of an adapter that, when hooked up to the PS3, allows playback of PS2 format titles. A […]

Sony Quells PSP Phone Rumors, Says No Plans To Launch New Mobile Device This Year

The heavily-rumored PlayStation phone will remain just a figment of our imaginations for another year, it seems. Sony’s senior marketing VP Peter Dille dropped word in a recent interview with Seattle Times that the company has no plans whatsoever to launch a new mobile device during the remainder of calendar 2010. No new mobile launches this year. Citing a “trusted […]

Kaz Hirai “Happy” With PSPgo Momentum, Shies Away From Digital-Only Future

Releasing the PSPgo marked Sony’s first stab at a digital-only handheld. Suffice to say, reactions were mixed — and to add insult to injury, its initial release was marred by a lack of content on the PlayStation Store. Growing pains aside, how has the UMD-less handheld held up sales-wise since its October debut last year? Pretty well, at least in […]

Update: We can confirm that all variants of the USB-hub emulating exploit (PSFreedom, PSGroove, PSJailbreak) are no longer functional in firmware 3.42. We’ve just been informed that PS3 firmware 3.42 has hit Network Update. Although Sony usually updates its blog ahead of time with information on new firmware releases, that is not the case this time — presumably as today […]

PSFreedom Released, PSGroove-Like PS3 Exploit for N900 Phones

Already ridiculously simple, the process of hacking your PS3 just became a little more convenient for owners of Nokia N900 cell phones. Homebrew developer KaKaRoTo today released PSFreedom, which targets the N900. Although similar in functionality to the recently-released PSGroove exploit, the code is entirely original. With the provided shell script executed on your N900, simply turn off your PS3, plug in the […]

Pictured above, it’s a two-toned PSP decked in red and black. Does the not-so-subtle design do Kratos proud? You be the judge. For a full recap, […]
